Expect more emotional scenes in Outlander season 4 for this one reason
Toni Graphia explained that there will be more emotional and quiet scenes in Outlander season 4.
Outlander’s best moments are the “quiet moments,” according to Toni Graphia. This is where the show really lives and where the viewers connect the most. Because of this there will be far more in season 4.
It’s certainly true. Over the last three seasons, some of the best moments have included either little dialogue with a lot of sensuality or important, quiet dialogue. Some of the best elements of season 3 were when Claire and Jamie found each other or when either of the actors were onscreen holding their own with pure emotion.

Some of the most memorable include when Jamie was on the Culloden battlefield, when Claire was alone in 1948 trying to connect to her life again, and when they had time to breathe and reflect. Sure there were heartbreaking moments, but there were also sweet, joyful, and romantic moments. Each pushed the emotions to the top, drawing viewers in.
It’s not often that quiet moments will make it to the screen. In fact, writer Graphia explained that most shows will cut out the emotional, quiet moments during editing to trim episodes down. Outlander has to opt for cutting bigger moments.
In season 3, the Porpoise chasing the Artemis on the stormy seas was cut in favor of showing more Claire and Jamie together throughout. The focus was on the two together, especially after a season of the two being separated for half of the total episodes.
Graphia explained that the quiet moments push the story forward. In season 3, the discussion of Brianna, Faith and Willie in the print shop helped Claire and Jamie connect again. They had the moment below deck on the ship for Claire to realize just how much she did love and want Jamie. When separated, their silent moments showed what they really thought and felt. These moments got fans ready for what was to come and for the two finding their way back to each other.
These quiet moments would be boring with most other shows. Supernatural lives within the chase of monsters and defeating of the big bads. Grey’s Anatomy is all about the diagnosing of problems and the surgery. There’s drama at every turn. While Outlander has the drama, it doesn’t need it constantly.
Fans can expect more emotional scenes in season 4. That’s a promise.
