The Critics’ Choice 2018 nominations have been released and Outlander secures one through its outstanding actress.

While not all Outlander fans are happy with the Critics’ Choice nominations for 2018 (we’ll get into why very soon), there is a reason to celebrate. The show has secured a nomination thanks to the wonderful acting by Caitriona Balfe. Our own Claire Randall Fraser has the chance of snagging a nomination and “Heaven & Earth” is one of the reasons that happened. The scenes with Elias Pound were beautiful and touching.

Second chance to win

Balfe secured the same nomination back in 2016 for the 7th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards. She didn’t win the award, but she at least got a nomination. Hopefully this time things will work more in her favor. However it is a tough category this year.

More from Outlander News

Our own Claire Randall Fraser will go up against:

  • Elisabeth Moss from The Handmaid’s Tale
  • Robin Wright from House of Cards,
  • Claire Foy from The Crown
  • Tatiana Maslany from Orphan Black

Out of all the nominations, personally I think Moss will clinch it but there is still some hope for Balfe.

What about Sam Heughan?

Of course, the big question is if Balfe secured the Best Actress nomination, what about Sam Heughan. He definitely deserves a nomination, especially for those tear-jerking moments in “All Debts Paid,” when Jamie had to say goodbye to young Willie.

But let’s not put a damper on Balfe securing her nomination for now. There’s a whole article to be written about Heughan’s snub.
