It’s the Outlander season 3 finale this week and tensions are running high.

The promo and synopsis for the Outlander season 3 finale have been released. It’s a race to find Young Ian before Geillis Duncan Abernathy does something dangerous. Meanwhile, Claire learns that Craig na Dun isn’t the only place with time travelling stone circles, but what does that mean for her and her family?

Here’s a look at the top takeaways, as fans count down the days to the final episode of the season.

More from Outlander News

Geillis isn’t afraid to make a sacrifice

When Geillis was Gillian in 1968, she believed that a sacrifice was needed to travel through the stones. It’s possible that she wants to navigate the stones again to find this 200-year-old baby from the prophecy, and she believes she’ll need another sacrifice. There’s no need to travel to Scotland either, as there’s another set of stone circles.

Claire knows that this means danger. She knows that Geillis killed her husband last time, so will be willing to kill anyone this second time. Knowing that she has Young Ian, the Frasers need to race against time to save the young boy from certain death.

Jamie somehow escapes captivity again

The Frasers were separated yet again in the last episode. That isn’t going to be for long, as Jamie will somehow get out of captivity once more and find his way back to Claire. Since Mr. Willoughby’s storyline has changed so much in the season, it’s possible that Lord John will play a part in getting Jamie out of jail. Will he use his authority to arrange for Jamie’s release and vouch for the man he knows James Fraser as?

Needless to say, Jamie’s release is going to happen. The promo shows him and Claire working together, as they search for Young Ian and stop Geillis from whatever dastardly plan she has.

The bones and the cave will come up

When Joe showed Claire the bones in 1968, fans instantly questioned whose they were. Those who had read the books knew exactly what was coming, but the show-only fans had a few theories. One of those was that they belonged to Claire.

Those bones are likely to come up in the Outlander season 3 finale. It’s also likely that you’ll be able to work out whose bones they are and who kills the petite woman.

Young Ian’s life will be in danger

Geillis made a point of preferring virgins, saying that they have specific power. However, Young Ian isn’t a virgin. She’s shocked to hear that but plays it off as a good thing. However, it’s possibly scuppered some of her plans. Now Young Ian isn’t going to be perfect for her exact needs, but that doesn’t mean he will go to waste. There will be power in him considering his family connections.

His life is definitely going to be in danger. Whether she’ll use him for some sort of blood ritual or opt for him as a sacrifice at the stones is unknown just based on the promo and synopsis. However, she wants to take his life, in return for saving Claire’s 20+ years ago.

Geillis may work out the riddle

If you were confused by the prophecy in the last episode, you’re not alone. We’ll attempt to break it down for you, but for now we’ll just leave it the way the series has. The season 3 finale may break it down further and Geillis may work out who this 200-year-old baby was—and it’s not Benjamin Button!

Geillis believes in fate and that something is drawing Claire and her together. This is probably linked to the prophecy and Geillis may learn a few truths about Claire, time travel, and the events in the 60s.

Check out the promo and synopsis for the finale below:

"Claire plays a game of cat and mouse with an old adversary as she searches for young Ian; the Frasers race through the jungles of Jamaica to prevent the unthinkable."
