‘Outlander’ and Sam Heughan snubbed again, this time by Scottish BAFTA
By Lesa Walton
“Outlander” fans thought the show getting locked out of the EMMY’s nominations was a fluke, but it been snubbed again. “Outlander” has been completely shunned by another television award show and this time in its own home. Scott and lead star Sam Heughan is not pleased about the snub.
Many fans were shocked, and outraged “Outlander” did not receive any EMMY nominations for its critically acclaimed first season. To the defence of the EMMY’s, the talent pool was deep, and most of the actors had great seasons. “Outlander” actors and producers stayed relatively quiet on the subject of its shutout. “Outlander” lead actors Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe have been busy filming movies and season two of their television show to worry about the snub. They have also been winning fan awards like the Radio Times TV award and E! Online Girl on Top.

The release of the nominations for the 20th BAFTA awards honouring the very best talent in film and television produced in the country and one television show was noticeably left off the list. It is one thing for American awards show to ignore a supremely Scottish made show but for the Scottish BAFTA to do it, it is the equivalent of a slap in the face. This time, Sam Heughan decided not to stay quiet on the subject. Heughan congratulated all of the shows and actors nominated for a Scottish BAFTA but made his displeasure felt on Twitter.
"“Congratulations all BAFTAScotland nominees! Personally, disappointed Outlander overlooked. Having brought much to ScotTV/tourist industry.”"
Sam Heughan is right. This snub could be best equated to your parents not showing up for your wedding. How do you not celebrate a television show that is fully invested in your country? “Outlander” has single handily reinvigorated the tourist industry for Scottland. It has made Scottish actors Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish household names. The show has created jobs because it hires locals to work on all aspects of the production of the show.
After two shocking nomination snubs by the EMMY’s and the Scottish BAFTA lets hope the Golden Globes will give some redemption for “Outlander” and its excellent actors.
Are you shocked “Outlander” has not been nominated for any awards this season?
