‘Outlander’ Season 1 Deleted Scene!

With the release of Outlander Season 1 Part 2 on DVD and Bluray yesterday, fans were treated to a fun deleted scene between the volatile yet intriguing Geillis Duncan and Jamie Fraser.

The scene, included for your viewing pleasure below, is a short but powerful exchange between Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and the town “witch” Geillis Duncan (Lotte Verbeek).

In the scene, the Geillis has known that Jamie is hiding in the room at the Castle, and asks him to come out. Jamie does, bashfully, and tries to stay neutral around the woman everyone calls Witch.

This particular scene takes place after Jamie and Claire have been married, and after Jamie has spanked Claire for all the trouble she caused during their travels throughout MacKenzie lands, specifically for being captured by the British and taken to Fort William. Jamie, if you remember, had to rescue Claire from the clutches of Black Jack Randall, and she paid back the price- with interest.

I can see why this scene was deleted. Although it’s well acted and packs a lot of punch, it seems almost too dark for these two characters who really don’t have much to do with one another at this point of the story. Those of you who’ve read the books will know that these two cross paths again. OR WILL THEY?

Lotte is a fabulous actress and plays off the sexual/ sensual/ mysterious/ scary/ witchy woman perfectly, but what does this do other than instill a creepiness in Jamie? As we saw, Jamie was able to warn Claire of Geillis’ without this scene… it’s clear enough to viewers that she’s bad news without having this sort of awkward encounter between the two.

I do love that joke about her husband… “He doesn’t do much laboring in any position.” BURRRNNN.

And those threats? Damn. Don’t get on the witch’s bad side.

"“But if you ever tan her hide again, or wound her heart, you’d be amazed at what my concoctions can do to a body. It would be a shame to ruin such a pretty package.”"
