The Couple Next Door opened with gunshots and everyone running through the woods. Who was the victim of the gunshot?

The final episode took us back to the cabin from the series premiere. It turned out that the initial gunshot that we heard from inside the cabin wasn’t aimed at anyone. After initially aiming at Danny, Pete failed to shoot because of another shot ringing out from the woods.
Danny was able to wrestle for the gun, but it led to the gun firing off to the ceiling. That’s the gunshot that we heard, leading to Evie running off into the woods.
Evie’s dad shot a mobster in The Couple Next Door season 1, episode 6
The finale did include some of the Spencer storyline. After all, it had to if there was any feeling of weight from Danny’s actions. The mobster from the previous episode followed Danny and Becka to the woods. He had a gun trained on the cabin, but Evie’s dad showed up and fired his own shotgun at the guy.
The mobster was killed. The shot was heard from inside the cabin, though, leading to that shot that we heard in the series premiere.
Two people were shot in the woods in The Couple Next Door
With all the rushing through the woods and the gun in the hands of Pete, I was surprised there wasn’t some sort of accidental shot as they ran through the woods. He didn’t quite get the aim right when it came to Danny once they stopped, though. Pete shot Danny in the leg.
It’s unclear who pulled the trigger next, though. Evie walked up to Pete to tell him that she no longer loved him. Then another shot rang out.
Pete was the one shot in the stomach. It just wasn’t clear if Pete accidentally (or deliberately) shot himself or if Evie ended up pulling the trigger.
It doesn’t look like Pete died, though. He was taken away in the ambulance at the end of the episode.
