Just as Julia thinks there’s hope, it’s taken away from her. Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 5 will see some secrets come out.
In the most recent episode of Outlander: Blood of My Blood, there was hope for Julia to escape. Brian had agreed to get her out of Castle Leathers in return for her speaking to Ellen MacKenzie for him. Now the time has come for Brian to uphold his end of the deal, but it doesn’t look like he can go through with it.
Take a look at the promo and synopsis for Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 5 before we dive into the breakdown of it all:
"Ellen (Harriet Slater) and Brian (Jamie Roy) attend Beltane, a festival to celebrate the coming of summer, where sins are burned away by the needfire. Henry (Jeremy Irvine) struggles to hold onto his hope and Julia (Hermione Corfield) loses allies when secrets come out."

Brian learns the ‘truth’ in Outlander: Blood of My Blood
In the promo, Davina tells Brian that Julia is carrying Simon’s child. This is Brian’s sibling, and suddenly, he seems concerned about what it means to get Julia out. Brian also seems confused, considering it was just the previous episode when Julia hinted that it was her husband’s child and not Simon’s.
Of course, Julia has done what she needs to so that she can be safe. She needs to make sure that her child isn’t taken away from her or killed. However, she is more focused on getting to Henry, and it looks like her lies are catching up to her.
Ned is worried about Ellen’s reputation
In the previous episode, which we recapped at ClaireandJamie.com, Isaac got word from Simon about Ellen’s reputation, but he didn’t seem to take the letter seriously. Well, that may have changed, as Ned seems overly concerned about Ellen’s plans for the evening. He tells her not to be reckless.
Of course, Ned knows that Ellen doesn’t want to marry Malcolm Grant. However, if things fall through with Malcolm, it could lead to a worse match being made by Dougal. That is if Ellen doesn’t take matters into her own hands.

Jocasta isn’t too sympathic to her sister in the Outlander prequel
It’s clear that Jocasta is jealous of Ellen. That’s been clear from the start of the show, and we’ll likely get to see why that is in this episode. After all, the sisters get to spend some time together.
Jocasta points out that what’s to come is Ellen’s life now. It’s time for her to be the dutiful married woman. With their dad gone, Ellen is no longer anyone’s favorite, and there is little that Ellen can do about it. There’s almost a smugness in this realization for Jocasta.
Ellen tries to reason with her sister
It would have been hard to be a woman in the past, especially a smart woman in the past. Ellen wanted to marry for love, but now she’s not getting that chance. Suddenly, she’s thrown into the world of most woman, especially those of a higher class. She’s being used as a pawn.
She tells Jocasta that she knows what it’s like to be a pawn now. Is this Ellen’s attempts to get Jocasta to feel sorry for her? That’s probably not going to happen considering the role Ellen likely played in setting up Jocasta’s marriage.

Henry is starting to lose hope in Blood of My Blood
We get a look at Henry’s story in Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 5. After feeling the hope at the start of episode 4, Henry is now losing it. He and Ned talk while they look over the fires of Beltane, and Ned has one thought. He fears that searching for Julia is going to kill Henry.
It possibly will. We have no idea what Arch and Isaac will do as Henry continues this search. What will they do if Henry does find Julia? It doesn’t help that Julia has been trapped in servitude at Castle Leathers, and it’s clear that nobody talks to Simon to really care about who works there. Will Henry decide he needs to give up, or will he search until the end?
