Just as we expected, The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 will arrive this summer. There is a little bit of bittersweet news that comes with the premiere date, though.
The Summer I Turned Pretty skipped a summer in 2024 due to the 2023 writer’s and actor’s strike. Filming didn’t happen as it would have originally been planned, but considering the series has “summer” in the title, we knew that a summer release date would make more sense. The bittersweet news also isn’t that surprising when you consider the series is based on a book trilogy.
The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 premiere date
Prime Video will premiere in July 2025. There isn’t a set date just yet, but getting a month is great when it’s this far out. Prime Video shared the teaser art for the season, which made it clear that July is the set month.
This makes sense. It matches the release of the second season in 2023. Plus, fans learned that there will be 11 episodes in the season, which is up from eight in the previous two seasons, according to Deadline.
The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 is officially the last
Now onto the bittersweet news. The third season is going to be the last, and this is something that we expected. The series is based on Jenny Han’s Summer book trilogy, and the third season will be based on the novel We’ll Always Have Summer. With that story being the last in the set, it made sense for the series to wrap up with that.
Han is one of the EPs on the series, so she could have potentially found a way to keep the story going if there was interest. That doesn’t mean she’d want to, and it doesn’t mean that fans would want to see it continue, either. The end of the story is pretty set, and it comes full circle from the first book.
As disappointing at learning it’s the final season is, this is also good news as it means fans will get closure. There is nothing worse than a series getting canceled abruptly. Look at the number of Prime Video shows where that’s happened, including the popular romance series With Love.
