All roads lead back to the cabin in The Couple Next Door season 1, episode 6. What exactly happened, and who was shot?
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from The Couple Next Door season 1 finale.
The premiere opened with Evie running from the cabin. We know Pete, Danny, and Becka were there as well. The finale explains how they all ended up together, and exactly what happened.
All the lies that have been told come out in the episode. Can any of the couples make it through the events? And I mean any, because it’s not just Pete, Evie, Danny, and Becka involved in this episode.
Jean chooses to leave Alan in The Couple Next Door season 1 finale
We’ll start with the easiest of the storylines to cover. Jean couldn’t stand to live with Alan after everything he has done. So, she takes half of the savings and then leaves him.
Alan is shocked to find out that she’s walking away. He likely believed that she would stay with him through everything. After all, she made up a lie to cover why he was in Becka’s house in the first place. However, Alan is left with carers, which half of the savings should pay for. It probably won’t pay for the carers forever, though. I think the house will need to be sold!
Danny tells Becka the full truth in The Couple Next Door
It’s time for Becka (and us!) to learn the full truth about Lena. I swear this is the first time we’ve heard her name mentioned! Lena was the woman Danny had an affair with. Only it turns out that it wasn’t an affair.
Danny had a relationship with Lena before he met Becka. The whole reason he kept it quiet is because Lena was a witness that he was supposed to be protecting. Yes, that is against the law, and Danny didn’t want to get in trouble. Becka makes it clear that out of everything, she never thought Danny would be able to abandon a child.
Now I understand why Becka was absolutely fine with meeting with Lena more and getting the brothers together. It wasn’t an affair, and therefore, Becka isn’t as hurt as she could be. She’s just angry that Danny kept this lie.
Of course, all of Danny’s lies have to come out. When Evie calls him from the cabin to say that her dad has locked her in there, he wants Becka to come with him. He has to tell Becka that Evie is pregnant, that they slept together a second time, and that Evie is obsessed with him. If he told her anything about the diamonds and the illegal activities, then I missed that.
Evie tells her dad the truth about the baby
Evie has been letting her parents believe that the baby is Pete’s for now. She decides to tell her dad that she had an affair. Of course, she blames all that on her dad. She says how her dad made her feel ashamed by saying that contraception is a sin, IVF is a sin, and she was being punished for it all with the miscarriage.
Evie’s dad cannot stand by her after she had the affair, so he leaves her in the cabin. This starts an argument between Evie’s parents. Evie’s mom points out that Evie’s dad has always followed scripture in a way that suits his needs. He needs to go protect Evie because that’s what the Bible says.
And he does. He heads back to the cabin where the two main couples are now inside. Outside is the mobster from the previous episode. That guy followed Danny and Becka to the cabin and was going to shoot Danny (and maybe Pete) as soon as they walked out of the cabin. Well, Evie’s dad got to him.
Who was shot in The Couple Next Door season 1, episode 6?
The shot outside stops the argument that is happening inside the cabin. When Danny and Becka first get there, Evie is in the bath. Danny makes it very clear that he loves Becka. Meanwhile, Becka doesn’t really know what to do. It’s clear, though, that she loves Danny. As Danny keeps saying that he isn’t worthy of Becka, she takes on so much of the blame for the entire situation; blame that she shouldn’t have to take.
Pete has Danny’s gun, and he waves it around in the cabin. He blames Danny for everything that has happened. It didn’t help that Jean makes a note that she has seen Danny and Evie in the street and hopes that Pete and Becka haven’t been taken for fools. The street sees everything.
Well, we know the full story. Pete isn’t in a state to listen, though. The gunshots outside distract them all, giving Danny a chance to get to the gun but the altercation leads to a shot firing to the ceiling and Evie runs, as we saw in the series premiere. Pete runs after her, and then Danny runs after him. Of course, Becka runs after Danny! This gets them all in the woods, where Pete ends up shooting Danny in the leg. That’s how Danny and Becka end up on the ground, because Becka puts herself between Pete and Danny.
As for Evie, she tells Pete that she “loved” him. It’s past tense, and Pete is heartbroken. Then suddenly, the gun goes off. It’s not clear who pulls the trigger, though. It looks like it could be Evie who pulls the trigger and shoots Pete in the stomach. This seems to get Evie out of the mental decline that she’s in, as she suddenly rushes to him, scared that he’s going to die.
We then cut to that evening. The ambulance comes in, and it looks like Pete is taken to the hospital, suggesting that he hasn’t been killed. Evie is taken away by the cops, so she’s likely to face something for what she’s done, suggesting that she may have pulled the trigger. Danny and Becka are left in an unknown state after everything that happened.
