Just as The Couple Next Door starts on STARZ, all eyes will be on whether this is a one-and-done series or not. There are a lot of them, with some purposely created as limited series. What about this one?
Well, there is already some good news for fans who don’t want to get into a new series without knowing there’s more. Channel 4 has already renewed The Couple Next Door for a second season. The UK network aired the show at the end of 2023, and the renewal news came in around a year later.
The series was a huge hit for fans in the UK. The first episode alone gained more than a million views within the first seven years.
Will STARZ air The Couple Next Door season 2?
Now for some bad news. When Deadline reported the news of the renewal, it came with the caveat that STARZ and Lionsgate weren’t mentioned in the production of the second season. STARZ joined with Channel 4 in the production of the first season, which made a lot of sense considering Sam Heughan’s involvement.
Heughan isn’t set to be part of the second season. At least, not in a huge role. This could mean that STARZ will step away, especially with the premium cable network not being certain about the interest in the series and the delay in getting the first season to North American viewers in the first place.
The Couple Next Door season 2 will follow a different group
The second season won’t follow the events of the first season. At least, not all of them. Hugh Dennis is the only returning cast member announced by Deadline. The rest of the cast is new, suggesting that a new set of neighbors and scandalous activity will follow.
Sam Palladio from Nashville will star in the second season, along with Annabel Scholey (The Split), Aggy K Adams (The Witcher), and Sendhil Ramamurthy (Heroes). This season will film in Belgium, with production already started.
Scholey plays Charlotte, a heart surgeon, who is married to consultant anesthetist Jacob, played by Palladio. Mia, played by Adams, moves into the house next door and is a mysterious new colleague at the hospital. Of course, she ends up working her way into the bed of the married couple, while Charlotte is also dealing with a past flame, played by Ramamurthy, coming back into her life.
Mia has a past that she’s running away from. Will her past connect to patients mysteriously dying in the hospital?
The Couple Next Door airs Fridays on STARZ.
