Theo wasn't giving Nan a chance to lie in The Buccaneers season 2, episode 3.

I genuinely feel sorry for Theo in The Buccaneers season 2, episode 3. All he wanted was a marriage filled with love, and it turns out that it is based on lies and personal gain.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for The Buccaneers season 2, episode 3.

At the end of The Buccaneers season 2, episode 2, Theo learned that Guy had been at the manor the night before Theo’s marriage to Nan. Guy was also spotted the following morning, and Theo knows what that means. Well, Nan was not getting a chance to think of a lie, and she decided that she wasn’t going to live the lie, either.

However, she did make a choice to protect her mother-in-law. That was until her mother-in-law turned on her.

Theo can’t deal with the truth in The Buccaneers season 2, episode 3

Nan doesn’t have a choice but to admit to sleeping with Guy the night before Theo’s wedding. Maybe there could have been hope had Nan said that in the end, she did choose Theo. However, she really hurt him by saying the only reason she married Theo was for the title. She needed the title to protect Jinny.

With that, Theo leaves. The saving grace is that Nan didn’t say anything about Theo’s mom knowing about Guy and being involved in the whole plot. If Theo had learned that, then we have no idea what he would have done.

However, he leaves for weeks with no word. Nan has to pretend like everything is normal and that Theo is just away on business. So, when it comes to Lizzy’s birthday, the party has to go on without delay.

Hector proposes to Lizzy in The Buccaneers

Lizzy’s birthday, which has A Midsummer Night’s Dream theme to it, is also a chance for Hector to pop the question. This is probably the worst kept secret, as Lizzy’s mom shows up at Hector’s invitation. Lizzy and Mabel are not happy about her being there, but there’s little that they can do except just ignore some of her comments.

Of course, Lizzy accepts Hector’s proposal. She then runs into an angry Theo, who has returned for the party. She wants to be happy about this marriage, but Theo makes it clear that he thinks Lizzy could do better. He likely thinks she could do better with him, but in the end, he has to apologize to her for his words.

There’s more going on at the party, as well. Hector’s dad turns out to be a lover of the Dowager Duchess, and he wants to rekindle their relationship. Like Nan, the Dowager Duchess chose a title over love, but it was likely for some very different reasons. While she initially considers being with him, Theo’s return upsets everything and she decides that she needs to stick around to support her son.

You see, Theo wants a divorce, but that can’t happen. It’ll bring too much scandal, but that doesn’t mean Nan needs to be around forever. Theo needs to do what he has to so that he can get an heir to the title.

Nan chooses Guy over Theo at the end of The Buccaneers season 2, episode 3

Of course, as Nan learns that her mother-in-law is turning her into a baby machine and that’s it, she questions her statement about both of them owing each other? They were supposed to be on equal footing and have each other’s backs in The Buccaneers.

Nan decides to tell Theo about his mother-in-law’s involvement in hiding Jinny. As Theo talks to his mom about it, Nan rushes off to find anything that will help her find her sister. She gets information that her sister is in Italy, which Lizzy confirms, telling Nan about the letter she burned. Nan isn’t too angry with Lizzy for doing this, hearing out Lizzy’s reasons, but she needs to head to Italy and get her man and her sister.

How long will her man be hers, though? In Italy, Jinny and Guy are getting closer, and there’s a chance that feelings may be catching.

Conchita and Dickie get to the bottom of Cora’s actions

As all of this is going on, Conchita realizes that Cora is acting out for more reasons than just wanting to find love. Cora admits that she’s scared that others won’t like her. All she wants is a love-at-first-sight match like Conchita and Dickie.

Well, that wasn’t a love-at-first-sight match, and Conchita makes that clear. Love builds, and that’s something Cora can find if she opens her heart. When she spots someone with yellow socks, which Cora has commented about wanting, Conchita encourages Cora to speak with him. It could be a good match.

Of course, finding out that Conchita is a matchmaker, Mabel’s mom goes to see her. She knows that Mabel is interested in women, and it’s time to nip that in the bud and find her a man. She needs Conchita’s help to do that.
