As we get ready for another season of Doctor Who, it means we get ready for a change to the cast. Millie Gibson’s Ruby Sunday decided to stop traveling with Fifteen at the end of the last season, and now he’s found a new (albeit reluctant) companion in the form of Belinda Chandra.
Naturally, there are many people who want to see more of Ruby Sunday. It doesn’t feel like her story has really come to an end, and we know that former companions can come back now and again. Once they learn about this world, they tend to stick with it in some way. So, is there a chance we’ll see Ruby Sunday again?
Ruby Sunday will return in Doctor Who season 15
There is some good news for Ruby Sunday fans. She will be back, with TVLine confirming that she will be in two episodes. The first appearance will be in episode 4, which is the halfway mark of the season. Then she’ll return for the season finale.
What her capacity will be is unclear, but Radio Times has shared an image of Ruby at UNIT. It makes sense that Ruby would end up working with UNIT, considering her introduction to the team in season 14. She clearly loves the time travel and the universe, but she wants to be closer to home. Working with UNIT allows to be part of both worlds.
In fact, Doctor Who season 15, episode 4 will give us a chance to see what Ruby’s life on Earth is like after that year of travel with The Doctor. It’s something that we never really get to see for the companions after they leave the TARDIS, but we need to. What they see changes them, and it’s not like they can just go back to the world they used to live — although Donna did try!
Anita Dobson is also back in Doctor Who
As fans saw in the Doctor Who season 15 premiere, Anita Dobson is back. She played Mrs. Flood in the 14th season, and it was clear early on that she had some sort of connection to The Doctor. She left the house next to Ruby’s at the end of the season, but now she’s moved in next to Belinda. That cannot be a coincidence.
In fact, Mrs. Flood broke the fourth wall again, and told us that she wasn’t there. What does she know about The Doctor, and is she a threat to him? Only time will tell, and it wouldn’t be surprising if she connected to Ruby Sunday in some sort of way.
Doctor Who airs on Saturdays on Disney+.
