As soon as Geillis opened the door in Outlander season 7, episode 9, Roger recognized her. How is that possible when it’s in 1739 and has never been in that time before? Well, it’s all thanks to time travel.

There are high chances that you rewatched the whole series throughout Droughtlander multiple times. That’s what the biggest fans of Outlander do, right? Well, there are a lot of other shows on the air, and we get it that not everyone is going to rewatch shows. It can lead to questions about what’s going on and how characters know each other.

After all, the last time Geillis was seen was in Outlander season 3, and Roger wasn’t in the past then. Roger meeting Geillis goes back to the Outlander season 2 finale.

Roger met Geillis in 1968 in Outlander

So, if you don’t remember that, you may have forgotten that Roger and Geillis met when Geillis went by her real name, Gillian. They met in 1968 Inverness, when Claire and Brianna went to pay their condolences to Roger after the off-screen death of Reverend Wakefield.

Claire had just told Bree and Roger about her ability to time travel and marrying Jamie Fraser in the past. Naturally, Bree didn’t believe Claire at first. Bree was trying to figure out who she was, learning that the man who raised her wasn’t her biological father. We can’t really blame her for trying to figure out her own head, which led to Bree seeing one of Gillian’s rallies for the White Rose of Scotland—the attempt to push for a Jacobite rule.

When Claire finds out that Geillis is in Inverness in 1968, she wants to warn the woman about what is to come. She wants to save Geillis from the pyre at the witch trial, believing at this point that Geillis had been executed for witchcraft. She also knew that Geillis and Dougal’s baby was Roger’s ancestor, so Claire shared with Roger about where Reverend Wakefield’s family tree was wrong and more about Gillian.

Roger does end up meeting Gillian in the past, but it’s only briefly. It’s long enough for Roger to remember her face. Of course he’s going to remember the woman who killed a husband to travel through the stones.

Roger knows how Geillis and Buck are connected in Outlander

Roger isn’t just concerned about Geillis as a whole. He knows she has a habit of killing husbands, but she does also heal people. The problem is the connection between Geillis and Buck.

Buck is Geillis’s son, a son that Geillis doesn’t even know she’s going to have yet. From what we’ve seen of promotional material, Geillis and Dougal haven’t even met yet, so the two of them have no idea what’s to come. While Geillis understands and believes in time travel, it’s not like Roger can just blurt out who Buck is to her. That just gets a lot messier.

Roger will need to manage the situation between Buck and Geillis, while also questioning things about what all this means for the future. Roger has already questioned what it means for him if Buck dies. What about if something happens between Buck and Geillis?
