It’s time for Richard Rankin to take the lead in the new Rebus series. All six episodes drop on Viaplay on Thursday, Nov. 7, and we can’t wait.
Rankin takes on a younger version of the character. He’s an Army veteran now working in the police force. However, he’s not the most by-the-book detective out there, and he doesn’t always do well at following the rules. It’s even harder when his brother ends up on the wrong side of the law.
On top of that, he has the struggle of being a good dad. After his wife left him and married someone else, Rebus watches as his daughter gravitates towards her stepfather. Is it best to let them play happy families, or should he fight for what he wants?
Rebus cast includes Amy Manson, Stuart Bowman, and Brian Ferguson
Rankin is joined by an outstanding Rebus cast. Let’s take a look at who also stars in the series with him.
Starting with Rebus’s brother, Michael, Brian Ferguson is taking on that role. Michael is also a former soldier, but he didn’t walk into a job with the police after he left. He’s trying to make ends meet for his family, and that’s leading to him being on the wrong side of the law.
Amy Manson takes on the role of Rhona Moncrieffe, Rebus’s ex-wife. She has remarried to a wealthy man, but she doesn’t have animosity toward her ex-husband. She wants to be able to co-parent with him, but Rebus doesn’t make it easy.
Mia McKenzie plays Sammy Rebus, who wants to spend time with her dad. She does get scared of him at times, though. Will she turn to her wealthy stepdad as her father figure, or will she let her dad in more?
Stuart Bowman takes on the role of Ger Cafferty, who is connected to Rebus’s story from the very beginning. Cafferty is a dangerous man, and he doesn’t like people crossing him.
Sean Buchanan plays George Blantyre, Rebus’s former partner who is paralyzed. Yes, Rebus is sleeping with his wife, who is played by Michelle Duncan.
Then there’s Rebus’s new partner, DC Siobhan Clarke, who is played by Lucie Shorthouse. She is on the fast-track in her career, and she is also secretly dating Malcolm Fox, played by Thoren Ferguson. Malcolm works for the department that upholds the standards within the police force, and he and Rebus don’t exactly get along.
Other cast members to look out for are:
- Noof Ousellam as Darryl Christie
- Nick Rhys as Lockie Moncrieffe
- Neshla Caplan as Chrissie Rebus
- Aston McAuley as Shaun Strang
- Caroline Lee-Johnson as Gill Temper
