There is some disappointing news for Sassnenachs everywhere. We’re not expecting any more new episodes of Outlander in 2025.
The Outlander season 7 finale has now aired. You can stream it on STARZ right now, and we’re looking at January 2027 for the episodes to arrive on Netflix in the United States. It means Droughtlander, and this is potentially going to be at least a year long.
Outlander season 8 probably won’t arrive in 2025
At claireandjamie.com, we've already said this before. We don’t think Outlander season 8 will arrive this year. As much as we would love to see the series reach us before the year is out, it doesn’t make a lot of financial sense for STARZ.
Sure, we want to see how the series comes to an end, but STARZ will want to keep subscribers for as long as possible. Can we be honest that there’s only really two franchise that STARZ subscribers keep coming back for: Outlander and Power. They both have different audiences, and that means as soon as Outlander is done, STARZ is losing a huge subscriber base. So, STARZ will want to keep us in Droughtlander for a while to help keep subscribers for a little bit longer.

There’s also the fact that Outlander season 8 is still in post-production. This can take months, and the episodes may not be ready until the end of this year at the earliest. It makes a bit more sense to plan for a 2026 release.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood will help to ease the pain
Droughtlander won’t feel as long as usual, and that’s all thanks to the Outlander prequel series. Outlander: Blood of My Blood will arrive this year. In fact, STARZ has set the release window for summer 2025.
This is another reason why we’re probably not going to get Outlander season 8 this year. It doesn’t make sense to have a lot of the same franchise at once. Business, remember?
So, yes, technically, there is an episode of Outlander this year, but it’s not the main series. Not all fans of the original series are interested in the prequel series, so we can’t really count it.
