While Outlander is coming to an end, the universe will continue. Fans are getting ready for Outlander: Blood of My Blood, a prequel story about the parents of Claire and Jamie.

Book fans will know that Diana Gabaldon is working on a novel that focuses on Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie. Is it possible that the TV series will include spoilers from the book? Could it mean holding back on watching the show for the book to come out?

Diana Gabaldon’s focus is on Outlander Book 10

Before we even delve into the potential for spoilers, we do need to point out that Diana Gabaldon isn’t actively working on the prequel story. Her main focus is Outlander Book 10, which is set to be the last book in the main series. This could change, but it’s the one that the characters are talking to her more about.

This doesn’t mean she hasn’t written any of the prequel novel, which doesn’t yet have a name. She has written bits and pieces as they come to her, and she has a rough idea for the story.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood shouldn’t spoil a lot for book readers

There is one part of the story that will not spoil anything for book readers. It’s the part about Claire’s parents. Gabaldon has made it clear that she will not cover Claire’s parents, as she isn’t interested in them. She doesn’t share in the fan theories that Claire’s parents both traveled through the stones. They really did die in a car crash.

What about Brian and Ellen’s story, though? There is a chance that some of this will spoil bits of the novel. However, Gabaldon will not have told Matt B. Roberts everything about Brian and Ellen. We already know some details, and they will be used in the TV series. They have to be when they’ve been set in stone by the Outlander TV series. The rest is open for the writers to create.

Fans will claim that this is fanfiction. Considering what fanfiction is and how Gabaldon hates it, Roberts and his team are not involved in that. It’s a series that is based on the novels, just like the main series has been.
