You’ve heard many stories of the Jewish people in World War II. We Were the Lucky Ones brings another tale.

This one is based on a book by Georgia Hunter, which is based on her real family history. It follows the Kurc family, a Polish Jewish family stuck at a time when the Jews were being persecuted by the Nazis. The family is forced to separate as they go on the run, with the hope that they will reunite after World War II.

The character Addy Kurc is based on Hunter’s grandfather. Other members of the family are based on her grandfather’s siblings and other family members. It was important to get the right cast for this series.

We Were the Lucky Ones cast

Logan Lerman stars as Addy. You’ll recognize him from the Percy Jackson movies. Yes, he was the titular character. He has also recently played a Jewish Nazi hunter in Prime Video’s Hunters, where he ended up being pulled into the hunting crowd after the murder of his grandmother.

Joey King stars as Halina Kurc, Addy’s sister. You’ll recognize her from The Kissing Booth movies on Netflix. She has also taken on some heavier projects, including The Lie on Prime Video and the 2008 movie Quarantine.

Henry Lloyd-Hughes takes on the role of Genec Kurc, the other brother in the family. He appeared in The Irregulars on Netflix as Sherlock Holmes. He was also in Ragdoll with Lucy Hale and in the Les Misérables TV series for PBS, which was based on the novel by Victor Hugo rather than the stage production.
