The first season of AMC's most underrated period horrors is heading to Netflix

If you love horror and you love period dramas, you’ll want to check out a show heading to Netflix in August. The first season of The Terror is among the list of multiple AMC shows getting a Netflix showing.

The Terror is an anthology horror series. The second season, which won’t head to Netflix at the same time, is set in a different time period with a different cast. You don’t need to feel like you’re missing out just yet—although it is highly worth the watch!

The first season stars Outlander’s Tobias Menzies among an excellent cast. It’s loosely based on true events, but it brings a supernatural horror element to it.

When does The Terror Season 1 come to Netflix?

You can watch the series on Netflix on Monday, Aug. 19. Netflix released the list of titles on its X feed to make the announcement.

It’s only the first season. The second season will still be exclusive to AMC+ for now. The first season will also still be available on the AMC streamer if you want to just pay for one!

What is The Terror about?

The first season is a fictionalization of Captain Sir John Franklin’s lost expedition through the Arctic between 1845 and 1848. The lost expedition really happened, and the series gives us some supernatural reasons as to why. After all, the real answers aren’t known.

Franklin had two ships, HMS Erebus and HMS Terror. They were both filled with the latest technology, and they were sent on a voyage through the northwest passage of the Arctic. They aren’t just there to confirm that the passage exists, but that it’s a way through to the Arctic.

However, the two ships end up frozen in the water. This must work together if they want to survive the frigid temperatures. Now if only it was just the temperatures that were causing a threat to the men on board. There is some sort of menace out in the ocean, and it may be something supernatural.

The Terror Season 1 cast

Tobias Menzies plays Commander James Fitzjames, the Executive Officer of HMS Erebus. The series has a standout cast, and you’re sure to recognize many of the names. They include:
