There are still five episodes of Shogun to arrive. Four of them will air throughout April, and it makes for an exciting tale. This covers the story of the first Englishman to reach Japanese land. He already has the language barrier to contend with. It’s even worse when he learns the Portuguese Catholics are already there, and they view him as the enemy mostly because he’s Protestant.

All of this is in the middle of a feud between the lords of Japan. Their leader has died, and now they all fight for power over the young heir to the throne.

This series does bring us a lot of Japanese and subtitles. It also has a cast predominately made up of Japanese-American actors. And while some of it is fictionalized because it’s based on James Clavell’s book of the same name, it is respectful of Japanese culture and history.

Shogun is available to stream on Hulu.
