With the removal of Hightown from Starz, what does this mean for Outlander?
For the longest time, we didn’t think we would need to worry about streaming originals disappearing. That has all changed. Hightown is the latest series to be quietly removed from a streaming platform.
The Starz original crime drama aired its series finale back in March 2024. Just weeks later, it was removed from the streaming platform. So far, it hasn’t landed a new home, and fans aren’t sure what’s going on.
It’s not the only Starz show to get that sort of treatment. Heels was also removed from the streamer after its series finale aired, although that has found a new home on Netflix.
With more Starz shows coming to an end, you may be worried about your own series. Should we be worried about Outlander? I don’t think so.
Outlander is one of Starz’s most popular shows
There is no denying that Outlander is one of the most popular shows on Starz. Power is arguably the most popular, especially with the growth of the franchise. However, we know that Starz loves Outlander, especially for the female audience that it has brought to the network. Starz is so happy that there is a franchise in development, starting with Outlander: Blood of My Blood.
Hightown and Heels didn’t get the same sort of attention on the platform. While they had their loyal followings, they didn’t reach the heights that Outlander (or Power) have done.
Starz isn’t going to want to remove content that people are actually watching. If Power hasn’t been removed—and that OG series came to an end a few years back—there’s no need to worry about Outlander. There wouldn’t be a spin-off if the network was going to get rid of the series.
Outlander and Hightown are different production companies
This could be linked to the production companies. We know that Lionsgate and Starz are splitting ways. Hightown and Heels are both Lionsgate shows, while Outlander is a Sony series. This is going to be important when it comes to streaming homes. With Lionsgate parting from Starz, it could be taking some of the shows that were produced under its banner.
I just don’t think we need to worry too much about Outlander leaving Starz after its series finale. Plus, the series finale isn’t going to air until probably 2026, so we have a fair while to have to worry about it.
