Red, White, and Royal Blue sequel in the works

For those who love Red, White, and Royal Blue, there is some excellent news. Amazon has confirmed a sequel is happening.

Based on the novel of the same name by Casey McQuiston, the movie follows a enemies to lovers trope. But it does it in a fun and beautiful way. This movie is all about bringing the realities of queer love to the forefront of media.

Matthew López will return to write the sequel script. This time, we’ll see McQuiston join the writing team. This is going to be important since there isn’t actually a sequel novel. That doesn’t mean McQuiston never wanted to bring a sequel; there just hasn’t been the right story to tell.

Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez will return

Even better news is that the two leads will return to the Red, White, and Royal Blue sequel. Nicholas Galitzine, who has starred in Mary & George just recently, will return as Prince Henry, while Taylor Zakhar Perez will return as Alex Claremont-Diaz.

For those who haven’t watched the first movie yet, it tells the story of Alex and Henry’s love story. The two initially have a long-running feud due to their parents’ positions in their respective countries. However, when there’s a photo of an altercation between the two of them leaked, they need to turn the bad publicity into good publicity.

Of course, this is a romance. The two realize that they have a lot more in common than they thought. Their friendship starts to become real, and then it turns into something much more than they expected.

What to expect in Red, White, and Royal Blue 2?

The details of the plot are being kept underwraps for now. That’s not surprising as the annoncement has only just been made. Plus, there’s no sequel novel to take inspiration from for this one.

What we can expect is to see Henry and Alex continue their romantic journey. We’re sure to see troubles arise possibly due to distance or due to public event expectations.

There is also the fact that Henry didn’t gain approval of his grandfather or his brother. His decision to choose Alex has a huge knock-on effect for the Royal Family, and that’s something the sequel could explore. We all know that finding love isn’t the hardest part of a journey. It’s all about keeping that love alive. It does allow for some great storytelling in the sequel.
