As we continue through Droughtlander, there is no doubt that you’re looking for more period dramas to watch. May is a little quieter than April, but there are still some great shows to check out.
Not sure where to start? We suggest Netflix as one place as a new season of a hot romance period drama is coming out. There are also some great options on Disney+, Hulu, and more.
Bridgerton
Yes, we start with the release of Bridgerton Season 3. Well, the first half of the season is coming out in May. You’ll need to wait until June for the second half of the season, but we’re sure it will be worth the wait.
The series follows on with Penelope and Colin. Penelope Featherington has given up on her crush for Colin Bridgerton. She knows, though, that it’s time to take a husband, and she needs to find someone who will provide her with independence and financial stability. After all, she needs to continue her work as Lady Whistledown.
Meanwhile, Colin is back from his summer travels and is eager to talk to Penelope. As she gives him the cold shoulder, he needs to figure out how to win her back. Is it possible that he has new feelings for her now that she doesn’t want him?
Bridgerton Season 3, Part 1 drops on May 16, 2024.
Doctor Who
How about a time traveling series that involves a few period moments? Doctor Who is a fun series, and the latest season premieres in May 2024. Yes, it’s time to see more of Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor, who is being branded as the 15th iteration as David Tennant’s return marked the 14th iteration and was different to No. 10.
We don’t yet have details of all the places that the series will take us. We do have some titles, though. The titles don’t give us information on time periods, but there are hints that we could be heading to the Regency Period based on photos released back in 2023.
Doctor Who Season 14 premieres on May 11, 2024 with two episodes!

The Tattooist of Auschwitz
World War II dramas remain popular. That’s especially the case when it comes to the story of the persecution of the Jews. After all, we can’t be allowed to forget about this autrocity of the past. How can we learn from it?
The Tattooist of Auschwitz is based on the novel of the same name by Heather Morris. It tells the story of a Jew taken to one of the deadliest concentration camps, where he was given the task of tattooing other people as they came into the camp with their numbers. He ends up meeting a woman he falls in love with, and the two end up on a journey to safe each other from their potential fates at the hands of the Nazis.
The story is based on truth.
The Tattooist of Auschwitz is on Peacock on May 2, 2024.
Shardlake
You’ve read the novels by C.J. Sansom, and now it’s time for the TV series adaptation. Shardlake comes to Hulu in May, and it stars Sean Bean! Do we expect him to survive?
The series is set during the Tudor period, and it’s more of a murder mystery rather than a pure drama. There’s been a horrific murder and Matthew Shardlake and Jack Barack decide that they need to figure out the truth behind it. There’s suspicion that Thomas Cromwell, the all-powerful right-hand man to Henry VIII is the one involved in that murder.
Of course, trying to take down Cromwell at certain points of Tudor history was almost impossible. It was only when he was on the way out of favor that anyone stood a chance in real history. So, how will this story play out?
Shardlake premieres on Hulu on May 1, 2024.
