If you are one of the Outlander fans worried about the series finale spoiling the book ending, you’re not alone. This wasn’t initially supposed to happen, but it has. The show is going to get ahead of the book storylines.

Outlander Season 8 is set to cover Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone and it will then need to wrap up those storylines. That means answering some of the burning questions, including how Jamie’s ghost is in the series premiere.

The good news is the show’s writers know that book fans don’t want to be spoiled. Diana Gabaldon also knows that. They will have all worked together to avoid book spoilers for all.

Diana Gabaldon has written an episode of Outlander Season 8 but not the ending

If you spotted Diana Gabaldon’s name on one of the scripts at the final table read, you may be worried that she’s written the final episode. And by worried, I mean that you may be worried that some spoilers could slip through. That’s not the case.

Gabaldon has likely written the penultimate episode. The final episode of a series is usually penned by the showrunner, and that would be Matt B. Roberts right now. This helps to reduce the risk of spoilers from the 10th book that she is currently writing seeping into the show story.

Matt B. Roberts doesn’t know how the Outlander books will end

While Gabaldon has likely given some of the basic plot details, she will not have shared the exact ending to the Outlander story. Let’s face it; she probably doesn’t even know it all herself. That’s not how she writes. She lets the characters tell her their stories as it all goes on.

We know that Maril Davis and Sam Heughan have at least been told about Jamie’s ghost. We can assume Matt B. Roberts knows about that too, allowing that to be included into the story. After all, this is something important that needs to be wrapped up in the series as well as the book.

The rest of the story has no source material. It allows the writers to craft an ending that works for their tale. This really happened with Game of Thrones, allowing George R.R. Martin to keep readers in suspense—if he ever finishes his story! So, don’t worry about the Outlander series finale spoiling the book ending. That’s not going to happen.
