Outlander Season 8 could still arrive in 2025 but we're probably looking at 2026
Now that we know when Outlander Season 7B will arrive, eyes are turning on the wait for Outlander Season 8. As much as it is still plausible for the final season to premiere in 2025, I reckon we won’t get it until 2026.
Outlander Season 8 production has started. There is some hope that it will wrap by the end of this year, but we could be looking at production going into early 2025. This then would mean months of post-production, making late 2025 just plausible for a premiere date.
I’m thinking that 2026 is more likely. That’s especially the case with the latest decision by Starz to push the premiere date for the second half of Season 7.
Why 2026 is the likely premiere date for Outlander Season 8
If Starz expected to premiere Outlander Season 8 in 2025, I don’t think the second half of Season 7 would have been pushed to late 2024. This push was likely due to Droughtlander lengths. It makes more sense to make this one a little longer to prevent the last one being too long. If the final season was going to arrive at the end of 2025, a summer 2024 release date for Season 7B would have made more sense to make the Droughtlanders equal.
This current Droughtlander is going to be 15 months long. If we look at Starz trying to make the Droughtlanders the same length, we’re looking at the spring of 2026 as a release date for Season 8. A November premiere date means a January 2025 finale date. This would mean an April 2026 premiere date.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood could still arrive in 2025
I do think that we’ll still get Outlander: Blood of My Blood in 2025. Production started on that earlier than Season 8. This allows for production to finish during the summer or fall and then the season could arrive next summer or fall.
I did wonder if this was Starz’s plan all along. While Season 8 airs, Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 2 (assuming that it’s renewed) can be in the works, allowing for a 2027 release date for that. Starz will always think of the year or two ahead when setting out a schedule. That is the same for all networks.
This is all speculation based on patterns and looking at things from a business point of view. All I’ve ever done is speculate based on previous release schedules and what would make sense from a business view for Starz. So please don’t take any of this as actually happening.
