Frances Tomelty is joining Outlander Season 8. The Northern Irish actress and ex-wife of Sting will join the series as Elspeth Cunningham.

I’ll admit that Tomelty isn’t who I imagined as Elspeth. That doesn’t mean I’m not excited to see her take on the role. She has a great biography, and I can’t wait to see what she brings to Outlander in the final season.

You’ll want to see some of her bigger roles to get an idea as to what she’s been in before. This will help you set your mind as to what we’ll see when she joins in Outlander Season 8.

Peaky Blinders, The White Queen, and more

You’re sure to have seen something that Tomelty has been in. If you’re a Peaky Blinders fan, you may remember her as Bethany Boswell in one episode of the Birmingham-set series. Bethany was an old Gypsy woman who lived in Wales. Tommy Shelby sought her out after giving a sapphire to Grace. He needed to make sure that it wasn’t cursed.

If you want to go further back in time, you can watch The White Queen. Tomelty took on the role of Lady Beauchamp in three episodes of the miniseries.

You can also see her in modern-day roles. Tomelty was in an episode of the UK version of Accused and in one episode of the British crime drama London Kills. She also appeared in nine episodes of the Prime Video comedy Catastrophe, and we can’t overlook her appearances in Gangs of London, Death in Paradise, and Call the Midwife.

She’s even played different roles in the same series. You’ll spot her as three different characters in Silent Witness. And if you watch The Nevers for Laura Donnelly, you will have seen Tomelty as Phoenicia Elizabeth Hague. She certainly has a knack for playing unlikable characters.

Most recently, she was in all six episodes of the Showtime series The Woman in the Wall. It’ll be exciting to see what she can bring as Elspeth Cunningham. She certainly has the skill, even if she’s not who I initially pictured as the character.
