As much as fans would love to get all eight episodes of Outlander Season 7B attonce, that is not likely to happen. Starz is sure to release the season weekly, as usual.

There are a lot of questions about whether Starz could change things up for Outlander Season 7B. We have such a long wait. Could Starz treat us to a binge-watch release?

As much as some fans would love this, it’s not likely to happen. This is despite Starz having a streaming platform.

Starz is still a premium cable network

Outlander Season 7B is not likely to get a binge-watch release. Starz may have a streaming platform, but it is still a premium cable network. Part of the way the networks make money is through cable subscriptions to its channel.

The channel isn’t going to air all episodes in one day on the channel. Instead, episodes air weekly on the channel, usually now on Fridays at 8 p.m. ET/PT. The episodes drop on the app earlier that day, with each one dropping a week at a time.

Outlander Season 7B’s weekly release keeps the subscriptions coming in

We have to remember that Starz is a business. At the end of the day, the networks need to make money. Since Starz doesn’t make money from advertisers, it has to make money from subscribers.  The best way to do that is to release content on a weekly basis.

It’s annoying for viewers, especially as we’re waiting so long for Outlander Season 7B, but Starz has to do the right thing for its business model. With a binge-watch release, people will pay for one month and that’s it. In fact, some people will sign up for the 7-day free trial and watch all episodes at once, meaning Starz doesn’t even make any money.

With the weekly release, Starz can get two months of subscriptions from fans. The majority of people will watch weekly even though they want the binge-watch release. With a week off in the schedule, it can lead to a three-month subscription.

Even streamers that once opted for the binge-watch model are changing tactics in recent years. Amazon has opted for a hybrid model for the majority of its shows, and Netflix has started to release a lot of shows in two halves. Starz won’t change things when other streamers are.

We’ve had much longer Droughtlanders

While fans are complaining about this lengthy Droughtlander, it’s only actually going to be around 15 months. We’ve had Droughtlanders that are much longer. Just look at the wait for Season 6!

Starz didn’t change its model to make up for that lengthy Droughtlander. Why would it do that for this one? It doesn’t make financial sense for the network.
