Now that we’ve finished Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, it’s time to move onto another set of books in the Outlander Book Club. It’s all about the Lord John Grey series.

I’d previous mentioned that I’d move onto the Lord John Grey books in the Book Club on the site. This makes the most sense as they are a great way to grow on a character who had become so important in later Outlander books.

Of course, you’ll want to know when we’ll get started. We’re going to take a couple of weeks off from reading. Here’s all you need to know.

Restarting the Outlander Book Club

The first of the Lord John Grey books is Lord John and the Hellfire Club. Yes, we’re reading them in release date order.

We will start this on Monday, April 1.

The posts will follow a similar format to the main books, but we’ll be skipping the foreshadowing section. Some of these books I’ll be reading for the first time, just an FYI. I haven’t read the later ones yet. For the adaptation, I’ll look at what could be adapted if STARZ ever opted for a Lord John Grey spin-off series.

What is Lord John and the Hellfire Club about?

The novella was originally a short story published as “Hellfire” in Past Poisons: An Ellis Peters Memorial Anthology of Historical Crime, which was published in 1998. You can now find it in the book Lord John and the Hand of the Devils, which includes two other novellas in 2007.

Hellfire sees Lord John investigating the death of a red-haired man in London in the 18th century. As he learns more about Sir Francis Dashwood and the notorious Hellfire Club, John finds himself pulled into a dark rabbit hole that could lead to his own life being in danger.
