We recently got more casting news for Outlander: Blood of My Blood. Sam Retford is joining the prequel series.
The Australian-English actor will play a young Dougal MacKenzie. Of course, Dougal had to be part of the prequel series. This is partly about Brian and Ellen, and with Ellen being Dougal’s sister, well, he needs to be in the story.
Before watching the new series, you’ll want to get a look at the cast in other projects. This is especially the case with many of these being younger and newer actors on the scene. Where have you seen Sam Retford before?
What has Sam Retford been in before Outlander: Blood of My Blood?
According to IMDb, Retford’s first on-screen performance was in Tom’s Life. He played Nate in four episodes of the miniseries.
He then took a break before landing the role of Cory Wilson in Ackley Bridge. He was in 25 episodes across two years of the series, and it is one of his most well-known roles from his career so far. We’re sure Outlander: Blood of My Blood that will change.
He has been in historical fiction before. He played George Boleyn in The Boleyns: A Scandalous Family. For those who don’t know much of their Tudor period history, George Boleyn was the brother of Anne, the second wife of Henry VIII. Anne and George were accused of incest and were both found guilty. They were executed for their crimes. Did they do it? Most historians don’t believe the rumors to be true.
If you’re into British soaps, you’ll want to check out some 2021 episodes of Coronation Street. Retford played Curtis in 56 episodes. Doing soap operas is hard work. Actors are constantly filming as they get stories filmed six months or so in advance. While there are a lot of people who look down on soap actors, they have some of the most gruelling schedules, so that should help with some of the work that the Outlander schedule can bring.
In recent years, Retford has been in episodes of Ralph & Katie, Blindspot, and All Creatures Great and Small. We’re excited to see him take on Dougal MacKenzie. Graham McTavish left some big shoes to fill.
