Outlander: Blood of My Blood casting: Who is Peter Mullan?
Outlander: Blood of My Blood has added more to its cast. Peter Mullan will play Red Jacob. We’re taking a look at where you’ve seen the actor before.
Mullan will take on the role of Jacob MacKenzie, also known as Red Jacob because of his hair. He is the laird of Castle Leoch and head of Clan MacKenzie. On top of that, he is the father of Ellen MacKenzie, as well as Dougal, Colum, and Jocasta, who we have met in the OG series.
We’ve never met Red Jacob in person, but we have heard stories. One of those is how he and Ned Gowan met. Jacob robbed Ned on the highway, and Ned ended up requesting to travel with Jacob. After that, Ned became the official lawyer for Clan MacKenzie and enjoyed a good relationship with Dougal and Colum as well as Jacob.
Where have you seen Peter Mullan before Outlander: Blood of My Blood?
Mullan is a Scottish actor with an extensive career. There is likely at least one series or movie that you’ve seen him in since his first official appearance on screen in 1988, according to his IMDb profile.
This is a man who has played the antagonist and the protagonist, which makes me very excited to see him as Red Jacob. I have a feeling that we’ll need to see him as a well-rounded character to understand how commanded so much respect as laird but didn’t force his daughter Ellen to marry.
Back in the day, he had guest spots in the likes of Taggart and Harry. He played “veteran” in Braveheart starring Mel Gibson, and you’ll see him in movies such as Trainspotting and My Name Is Joe, where he was the lead. He was even a Death Eater in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1.
In recent years, he played Father Henry Garnet in Gunpowder starring Game of Thrones’s Kit Harington about the Gunpowder Plot. He was in Ozark as Jacob Snell, and he took on the role of the villainous Father Carden in Cursed.
And yes, you can see him in big-budget productions. He is King Durin III in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, the prequel series on Prime Video. He is certainly no stranger to telling the stories of what came before the main plots.
He has one other upcoming project that you won’t want to skip over for a look at a Scottish historical event. He will be in Lockerbie, which tells the story of the Lockerbie bomber and the tragedy that struck that day.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood is coming to Starz.
