Outlander: Blood of My Blood casting: Who is Brian McCardie?
Outlander: Blood of My Blood has found its Isaac Grant, the head of Clan Grant. Brian McCardie will take on the role, and here’s where you’ve seen the Glaswegian actor before.
McCardie will play Isaac, who is the head of Clan Grant. While not mentioned in the Outlander books, it makes sense to have him in the TV series. We know that at the time Colum was laird of Castle Leoch, Malcolm Grant was chieftan of Clan Grant.
Isaac is Malcolm’s father. Outlander: Blood of My Blood is set a little earlier than Colum being laird as Red Jacob is still alive. It does make sense that Isaac is still alive, and it makes sense that Jacob and Isaac would talk about marrying their children to combine their clans and create peace between them.

What about the actor, though? You’ll want to see the style of acting he has, and you’ll want to get an idea of the types of roles he can do. The great news is there is a lot of material to work through.
According to his IMDb, McCardie’s on-screen career started in 1989 in an episode of Eastenders. He went on to be in Waterfront Beat, Murder Most Horrid, and Rob Roy in various roles. Something that will stand out for Outlander fans is that he was in an episode of the original Rebus. Richard Rankin is taking on the titular role in the reboot, although we’re still waiting on details about that after changes at Viaplay.
He was also in five episodes of Taggart, in various roles in each of those guest spots, and in an episode of Accused. He went onto play First Officer Murdoch in the TV mini series Titanic and played Uncle Dean in four episodes of the Snatch TV series. We also can’t forget him as Jackson Jones opposite Sean Bean in Time.
Oh, and there is another Outlander connection. McCardie was in one episode of the OG series. He played Sir Marcus MacRannoch in the first season of the series. Talk about a connection to Ellen MacKenzie Fraser!
He’s also been in a number of period dramas in recent years. They include the likes of The Last Czars, Charles I: Downfall of a King, and Murder Is Easy. There really is no shortage of shows and movies to watch with McCardie in them.
