What exactly does a succubus do? That’s what we learn in Lord John and the Succubus Chapter 2. There’s also something bigger going on in the mystery.

The chapter sees Lord John and others back at the house of Louisa. She wants to know more about this mythical creature to find out how it could end up killing the men. Of course, there are also concerns that Blomberg wouldn’t allow his mother’s grave to be exhumed.

However, there is a much bigger issue going on. Someone in the castle has allowed someone else to sneak in and potentially take Louisa’s son Siggy.

Breaking down Lord John and the Succubus Chapter 2

The chapter starts with Lord John, Namtzen, and others at Louisa’s house. We find out that Blomberg was shocked to see that Karolus had stopped at his mother’s grave. He refuses to allow the grave to be exhumed, which has made some of the townspeople uneasy.

Louisa wants to know what a succubus does. The men are embarrassed to explain, but it turns out that the succubus will have sex with men to take their “seed.” That seed is then passed onto an incubus who will impregnant women with demon seed.

After that conversation, everyone goes to bed, but Colonel Sir Peter takes John to one side. He first wants to know if John will take the body of Private Bodger back to his regiment. He will.

His second thought is about the French potentially moving troops over the bridge at Aschenwald. He wants Namtzen to send a message to Colonel Ruysdale to make sure there are plenty of troops to defend the bridge. He also wants John to speak to Louisa to get her family out of the castle.

As John heads to his chamber, he ends up coming across Siggy, Louisa’s son. He says that there was a witch in his room, and when John goes to the room, he sees the shutters open and a ladder against the window. John closes the ladder, but it’s clear that someone in the castle has helped someone else get into the room, and Siggy’s nurse has gone missing.

John and Namtzen discuss this potentially being a kidnapping attempt, so Namtzen posts guards outside the house. With that, Namtzen kisses John on the mouth and they part for the night.

Could the chapter be used in a TV series adaptation?

This chapter certainly sets up the bigger plot of the story, so if there was an adaptation, we would need to see it used. We’d need to learn more about a succubus and what it does, and we would need to see the potential kidnapping plot. After all, we know that a lot of these storylines end up connected.

I would also love to see the kiss between John and Namtzen. It was clear in Lord John and the Private Matter that Namtzen was interested in John, so I would like to see that play out on the screen. We need a love interest for him, even though he doesn’t stick around based on where we know John is 20 years later.
