Lord John Grey and Percy find themselves in a small fight against the French in Lord John and the Brotherhood of the Blade Chapter 24. It leads to a conversation that could spell the end of the two of them.

The chapter picks up a month after the regiment’s arrival in Germany. Things are boring for John. This is good in terms of holding back the enemy, but John wants to find a way to beat the boredom. He does that by joining various troops.

It comes to joining Percy’s set of troops. This leads to a skirmish.

Breaking down Lord John and the Brotherhood of the Blade Chapter 24

Lord John Grey is bored. April has been tedious thanks to Duke Ferdinand and the English keeping the French back. To help deal with the boredom, John decides to patrol with one of the companies. He does this at random, and eventually gets to Percy’s company.

While they are out, Lord John sees movement in a copse. When there is suddenly a blast of musket fire, Percy’s men need to rally together. Percy leads an attack before those in the copse are ready. That’s when John finds out that it’s a small bunch of young, inexperienced Frenchmen.

While they scatter, Percy’s men fire. Percy is able to kill one of them with his sword. John is watching so closely that he doesn’t see a Frenchman coming to him. John is injured in the eye, but Percy comes to the rescue, stabbing the attacker. John orders everyone to return to camp.

There, Tom Byrd can worry about John’s coat, while Percy can worry about his eye. There’s a moment between Percy and John again, as Percy shares that he understands what John was saying about killing a man. He sees John as a beast, and he worries that John will think less of him for his shaking and throwing up.

John realizes that there is something that differs between them. John only kills because it’s a matter of duty and not because he actually wants to. Could this spell the beginning of the end for them?

Could this chapter be used in a TV adaptation?

We need action and drama in a TV series. So, if Lord John and the Brotherhood of the Blade was every adapted, I could certainly see this chapter being used. It would need to be for the action.

I haven’t read the book before, so I’m not sure if it does lead to the end of John and Percy. If it does, it makes this moment all the more important. We need to see how the two men differ and what this means for them and their relationship.

However, the battle itself is something that we need to see. After all, John is injured again. Plus, we see how men will react different in a battle. It’s harsh to compared Percy and John considering Percy’s lack of experience in battle, but we need to see it on screen.
