Jesse Spencer is switching out his firefighter uniform for a 1970s look in the upcoming Hulu period drama. Get ready for Last Days of the Space Age.
The historical fiction is set in 1979 Australia. Yes, that means Spencer gets to use his natural accent, and it certainly adds more to the story. It’s so easy to get stuck on the American part of the Space Race. There is even some focus on the Soviet side. What about the rest of the world, though?
What to expect in Last Days of the Space Age
David Chidlow has brought us this limited series, with covers a time when Perth, Australia was at the center of the world’s headlines. A power strike threatens to put the whole of Perth into darkness, with the U.S. space station Skylab and the Miss Universe pageant crashing out in the suburbs.
Three families in this tight-knit coastal community are threatened, and not just by job losses and political shifts. Their marriages and friendships are also put to the test.
We get a glimpse at some of the marriages showing signs of falling apart. Spencer’s Tony Bisset and his wife Judy, played by Radha Mitchell, realize that things aren’t working. Tony has taken a job that puts his family at risk, and he didn’t tell his wife the truth. This has led to Judy struggling to trust her husband, and the tensions in the area are only making it worse.
When will Last Days of the Space Age arrive on Hulu?
There are eight episodes in the limited series, and all eight will drop on Hulu as a binge-watch. Get ready for Last Days of the Space Age on Wednesday, Oct. 2. All eight episodes will drop on Disney+ internationally.
