The time has come for another Lord John Grey book. We move into A Plague of Zombies, and eyes are on whether characters from previous books will return.
Of course, our main focus is on Jamie Fraser. The Scottish Prisoner heavily featured Jamie, giving us more of an insight into his life at Helwater. We got to see as he realized his love for Willie. We also got to see Lord John Grey work out the connection between Jamie and Willie.
So, will we see more of Jamie in the next book? After all, the friendship is back on. There’s a little bit of bad news for those who want more Jamie.
Jamie Fraser is not in A Plague of Zombies
This is one Lord John Grey book where Jamie doesn’t show up at all. He is mentioned, but he doesn’t get involved in the story.
That’s mostly due to location. John is in Jamaica in 1761. Jamie isn’t away from Helwater yet, and he doesn’t end up in Jamaica until later in the 1760s. We are getting closer and closer to the point in Voyager where Jamie and Lord John Grey cross paths again.
This novel sets up John’s appointment in Jamaica eventually. He ends up being Acting Governor during the novella, and it’s clear that he is the right man for this job. We know that eventually he ends up getting that title officially.
There are some other characters from previous Outlander books who do show up. One of those is a certain Geillis Duncan, who is now going by another name and is still up to some of her tricks. While she believes the Jacobite rebellion is over, she isn’t done with her scheming to create the life she wants. What will Lord John Grey think of her?
We start our read-through of A Plague of Zombies on Monday, Oct. 14.
