Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire remains a favorite among horror readers. This is more than a tale about vampires. It’s a tale of life, of love, and of survival.

AMC has an excellent adaptation, bringing the time period forward a little and adding a few other details for the interview part of things. Many want to be able to watch the first season, but you may not want an AMC+ subscription. The great news is that won’t be necessary for the first season of Interview with the Vampire soon.

The series is about to get the Netflix Effect. Here’s what you need to know about the release.

Interview with the Vampire Season 1 is coming to Netflix in August

Netflix announced that 11 AMC shows will head to Netflix in August, and the first season of the vampire series is one of them. All seven episodes of the season will arrive on Monday, Aug. 19.

It is only the first season. The second season will remain on AMC+ as its exclusive home, and a third season is in the works. Netflix with get a non-exclusive right to the first season, so you’ll still be able to watch that on Netflix, too.

What is Interview with the Vampire about?

The series follows Anne Rice’s novel, but there is a time period change. While the novel initially takes place in 18th Century New Orleans, the first season of the series initially picks up in 1910, as well as 2020.

Louis de Pointe du Lac tells his story to Daniel Molloy, a journalist who would like to publish it. We are taken back to 1910, where Louis is in New Orleans, acting as the executor-in-charge of his family’s fortune. He meets the vampire Lestat, who changes Louis’s life forever.

We don’t just learn about Louis’s past, though. We also learn more about his modern-day life. It’s a chance to see how he’s changed, and we need the story of the past to understand that. If you know the book, you know of some of the events that need to happen. The first novel in the vampire trilogy is covered over the course of two seasons, so you’ll definitely want AMC+ to watch the second season.
