We knew the Hargreeves siblings would get their powers back in The Umbrella Academy Season 4. The big question was how.

At the end of the third season, Sir Reginald Hargreeves changed everything. He sent the siblings back to 2019, where they found out they had lost their abilities. Some of the characters even disappeared, with The Sparrow Academy’s Sloan no longer around.

However, by the end of the Season 4 premiere, we found out how the Hargreeves siblings would get their abilities back. In fact, they gained new abilities linked to their original ones in many cases.

Ben spiked the group with marigold in The Umbrella Academy Season 4

In the premiere, Viktor is taken by a man who wants the Umbrella Academy siblings to get their powers back to be able to save someone close to him. He has items from the original timeline, and Five notices that there is a glass of marigold. He grabs the box and the siblings go off to a Japanese steakhouse.

While there, Five shows that there is marigold. They have the chance to get their abilities back, but not all of them want that to happen. It’s a case of all or nothing with this.

Ben and Diego want their abilities back. It’s clear that Lila does but she doesn’t really want to admit it. Viktor, Klaus, and Luther are completely against it, and it does look like Allison is a little on the fence. That’s not surprising with Allison. She was the one who gave it all up in the first place, despite going against her siblings and almost killing them.

What about Five? He was willing to do what the group wanted. After all, he still gained a decent life without his abilities due to his other skills he’d gained.

Ben wasn’t happy with the decision of not getting their powers back. So, he decided to spike some sake with marigold, making sure every sibling and Lila got their powers back.

A change to some of the powers in The Umbrella Academy

As the trailer hinted, some of the abilities would change. Luther was the only one to gain his whole ability as if nothing changed, including the half-ape look.

Diego’s powers didn’t advance too much, while other characters gained upgrades or slightly adapted abilities. Five got a bit of a downgrade, which was likely linked to the way all the timelines converged.

Of course, the siblings are angry that Ben spiked their drinks and took away their choices. However, they end up realizing that they need to come together to take down Reginald Hargreeves and save the world as they know it.
