House of the Dragon Season 3 isn't coming in September and we have a long wait

It's a quiet fall if you want to see more dragons. House of the Dragons Season 3 will not arrive, and we know it's going to be a long wait.

House of the Dragon Season 2 was a mixed bag. There were some great episodes, and then there were some anticlimactic ones—one of those being the Season 2 finale.

You likely want more because you love the dragons and you want to see more action. This is where there’s some bad news. We’re not getting any new episodes in September 2024.

This isn’t surprising for a couple of reasons. The first is that we’ve only just had a new season. The second is that it makes more sense to reserve September premieres for broadcast shows rather than competing with them—although we know House of the Dragon can compete well.

House of the Dragon Season 3 likely isn’t coming until 2026

Now we have a lot of bad news. There isn’t going to be a new episode of the Game of Thrones prequel series until 2026, probably. While there is a slim chance we could see something in late fall 2025, it’s more likely that we’ll get it in two years. That matches the release between Seasons 1 and 2.

Right now, only the third season has been confirmed, but there are plans for four seasons of the series. The fourth season is set to be the last. It makes sense since there is an end point of the story from Fire & Blood. There’s only so long that the Dance of the Dragons can go on for. Now we’re just waiting for HBO to confirm that the fourth season will happen.

In some good news, there will be more from the Game of Thrones franchise, and one of those shows will arrive in 2025. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is heading our way, and there is some great casting, including an Outlander actor.

This does mean there’s time to watch all of House of the Dragon before the third season. There will also be plenty of time to rewatch Game of Thrones.
