House of the Dragon Season 2 finale preview: Will Helaena join the dragon fight?
If you’ve read Fire & Blood by George R.R. Martin, you know of Helaena’s tragic story. Is House of the Dragon really going to change that?
There have already been some changes to Helaena’s story. The first is that there’s no Maelor, which made the Blood and Cheese moment not quite as traumatic as it could have been. I said from the start that this would change the trajectory of Helaena’s storyline, and the promo for the House of the Dragon Season 2 finale seems to hint at this.
Aemond turns to Helaena and tells her that he needs her to bring Dreamfyre into the fight. Again, Dreamfyre has a tragic story in the books as well. She certainly deserved better, and maybe the show is going to offer that. However, Helaena isn’t a fighter, and she won’t just change her mind because Aemond wants it.
The promise of a major fight in the House of the Dragon Season 2 finale
It looks like Larys is back to talking to Aegon, sharing that Aemond is angry. That’s not surprising considering the shock that Aemond and Vhagar got at the end of the previous episode. There are new dragonriders on Rhaenyra’s side.
Aegon looks worried. Larys doesn’t know what Aemond will do, and Alicent tells Aemond that his path isn’t going to be a good one. All it brings is death and ruin. Criston Cole also knows that they’re walking into death. Is this hinting that Criston is done for at the end of the season? I’m sure there won’t be many people who are disappointed by that.
Meanwhile, Rhaenyra needs to work with her new dragonriders. They need to bend the knee and follow her orders. That’s not so easy when they’ve spent their time away from her and haven’t really shown her loyalty up to this point.
The trailer makes it look like we’re getting a big fight, though. Is this the turning point for Rhaenyra? Or is she losing more thanks to Daemon’s actions in the Riverlands?
