With the Battle at Rook’s Rest over, it’s time to see how the Blacks and Greens recover. The House of the Dragon Season 2, Episode 5 trailer gives us a hint of things to come.

The Blacks have lost two major players. Rhaenys’s death is sure to have a knock-on effect for Corlys, while the loss of Meleys means that the Blacks are one war-experienced dragon down. The Blacks can’t just storm King’s Landing, but they need to attack, especially with the Greens also weakened.

Is King Aegon dead in House of the Dragon Season 2, Episode 5?

We also get a hint of Aegon being carried back to King’s Landing. There is no sight if Sunfyre, but it looks like Aegon has survived the fall. Alicent wants to know if Aegon is dead, but we don’t hear the response.

The Greens are using the victory at Rook’s Rest to their advantage though. They parade the head of Meleys through the streets, which is sure to set a few things up going forward. After all, the smallfolk see that dragons can be killed. Sure, it’s by another dragon, but this is sure to give them some hope that the Dance of the Dragons won’t necessarily be the bloodbath they initially feared.

Daemon focuses his efforts for the Blacks

Rhaenyra says that she can’t storm King’s Landing. They need the Riverlands for that, and Daemon is the one taking control there. He’s taking Caraxes out and making it clear that he will kill those who don’t choose the Blacks. Don’t mess with this man! He’s already proven to attack, even when he doesn’t need to.

Daemon’s storyline has been on the slower side up to this point. Hopefully, this is a turning point as we see him strategically putting everything together to put Rhaenyra on the Iron Throne.

Of course, he needs to deal with the visions and hallucinations he’s having first. The last two episodes have foreshadowed a few things, and it looks like he’s finally accepted who he truly is.
