While we probably won’t see everything that takes place in Written in My Own Heart’s Blood in Outlander Season 7B, we’ll probably see plenty of Roger’s storyline. After all, this is an important one for his own character’s development.
The last we saw of Roger, he and Buck MacKenzie went through the stones. They are looking for Jemmy, believing that Rob Cameron has taken Jemmy to the past. Buck went with Roger sharing that he knows the time period best as it is his, and he needs to find his kin.
What will they find when they get there? It’s time to delve into the book spoilers to find out! Yes, we’re delving into details from Written in My Own Heart’s Blood, so if you don’t want book spoilers, this is definitely not the post for you.
Roger and Buck don’t go to the 1760s in Outlander Season 7B
It turns out that Jemmy isn’t in the past. Rob Cameron didn’t time travel. So, who will Roger and Buck run into? Where have they ended up? There is a Jeremiah MacKenzie in the past, but it’s not the Jem they’re looking for or in the 1760s.
They end up in 1739. In the books, they have to initially deal with Buck’s health issues. He suffers from heart problems due to traveling through the stones, and they come across a healer who is also a time traveler.
Roger needs to focus on his own journey, though. He still thinks that he is there to save Jemmy. It’s only when he gets dog tags while at Lallybroch—yes, he meets Brian and Jenny Fraser!—that he realizes he is there for another Jeremiah. He is there to save his father.
Roger always believed his dad died in the war when Jerry’s plane went missing. Well, it turns out that Jerry traveled through time, and it’s Roger who sends him back to the 1940s. Jerry still dies, but he’s in the right place at the right time to save Roger’s life!
Buck meets his parents in the Outlander books
Back to Roger and Buck, this is 1739. Geillis is in the past, although she isn’t Geillis Duncan just yet. This is the build up to Geillis marrying Arthur Duncan and having an affair with Dougal MacKenzie.
Buck is rather taken with his mother. It’s a creepy moment, but in Geillis’s defense, she has no idea that Buck is her future son. It’s Buck who steps out here!
What happens to Buck? Well, we don’t know. Roger leaves Buck in 1739 when Brianna and the kids turn up and they figure out what they need to do next.
One storyline that probably won’t be in Outlander Season 7B
There is a storyline that we’re not expecting in Outlander Season 7B. Roger heads to Fort William to speak with Black Jack Randall. We know that Tobias Menzies isn’t likely returning to the series, so the show has probably skipped over this part. In a way, it’s not an overly important moment. At least we should get Roger meeting Brian Fraser.
Outlander Season 7B premieres on Friday, Nov. 22 on Starz.
