What to expect for Denny Hunter in Outlander Season 7B based on the books?

The release of new images for Outlander Season 7B told us that we’d see more of Denny Hunter. Now the question is what’s in store for him.

We can look at the novels for this. Outlander Season 7B is set to take storylines from both An Echo in the Bone and Written in My Own Heart’s Blood. However, I don’t think we’ll see all of those storylines play out.

Let’s dive into the book storylines to see what we could expect. As usual, if you don’t want book spoilers, you know this post isn’t for you!

Denny Hunter falls for a Grey in the Outlander books

Denny continues to work as a surgeon for the Continental Army in the Outlander books. We do see a photo of him and Claire talking in Outlander Season 7B, and this is likely taken from Denny being the one to help treat Henry Grey. Denny knows that Claire is the best person for the job, but he does what he can while waiting for Claire to arrive.

This does setup a chance for Denny to meet Dottie Grey, the sister of Henry and daughter of Hal Grey. The two of them fall for each other, and they eventually getting married. Dottie ends up converting to the Quaker religion, and she also ends up switching sides, much to the Greys dislike.

This is the storyline I’m not sure we’ll see. Maril Davis shared that there wasn’t enough time to include Dottie in the story, which suggests that Denny’s storyline is mostly going to stick to his surgeon storyline.

Denny will likely learn how to make ether in Outlander Season 7B

If the show sticks to denny’s surgeon storyline, there are two moments from the books that I see playing out. The first is treating Lord John Grey’s eye injury. We see in the teaser for Outlander Season 7A that Lord John Grey has an eye patch. This comes after a particular storyline involving Lord John Grey and Claire Fraser.

When John’s eye is seriously injured and he is taken by a Continental Army camp, Denny happens to be there. He treats John’s eye and then helps the man escape.

Denny also helps to treat Henry, which is when he learns about ether. Claire offers to teach Denny how to make ether, and I’m sure we’ll see this come up. Denny is a skilled surgeon for his age, but he also needs to learn more and refine his skills. Claire offers him that chance, and he jumps at it! I love that we see Denny and Claire work together so much, as I hope to see it happen more in the TV series.
