If you want to see the end of Criston Cole, you may be hopeful that it happens in House of the Dragon Season 3. After all, the end of Season 2 saw him rather despondent and negative about the entire Dance of the Dragons.
At the end of Season 2, Criston told Alicent’s brother Gwayne that this war is no longer one that will see men survive. Putting the dragons to war against each other has meant that people will be innocent casualties, whether they fight or not. There is little hope left, and that could affect his actions next.
We can take a look at the book to see what’s to come for Criston Cole. I do have a feeling that the rest of his storyline will play out in House of the Dragon Season 3.
Criston Cole marches to Harrenhal in House of the Dragon Season 3
We’re sure to see Criston and his Army of Greens continue their march to Harrenhal. When they get there, they will find it abandoned and empty. At least, that’s what happens in the books, and it looks like that is the way the show storyline will go. Daemon has chosen to stand by Rhaenyra, and he was readying his men to leave and fight for King’s Landing.
While Aemond sees Harrenhal being abandoned as a victory, Criston can see what’s really going on. He wants Aemond to retreat south and join the Greens led by Lord Ormund Hightower and Aemond’s younger brother Daeron. Aemond doesn’t want to do that, and instead, wants to burn the Riverlands.
Criston decides to head south with his Greens. Along the way, he and his Army find that the villages have been destroyed and the water contaminated. There are few supplies to gain, and it’s clear that the Blacks knew that this is what Criston would do. There’s an ambush planned at Crossed Elms, with the deaths of many Greens.
Criston makes an appeal in offer to bend the knee in Fire & Blood
As Criston believes he is on the losing side, he makes an offer to the Blacks. He will bend the knee if the Blacks will spare his men. The Blacks refuse to do that. Instead, they kill Cirston with three arrows. His men are then killed.
That’s not the end of Criston’s appearances, though. At the First Battle of Tumbleton, his head is brought in on a spear to show that the Kingmaker and Hand of the King is dead.
I suspect that we’ll see at least the First Battle of Tumbleton in House of the Dragon Season 3, which means we should see Criston’s death.
