Doctor Who gives a positive update about Fourteen
When The Doctor regenerated into Ncuti Gatwa’s form in Doctor Who, it wasn’t through normal regeneration. David Tennant’s second appearance as The Doctor is still around thanks to bigeneration.
The recent episode gave us a small update about where Fourteen is. The last we saw of him, he was living with Donna Noble and her family. That included Rose, who now works for UNIT. Fifteen was able to catch up with Rose, and there was a blink-and-you-miss-it moment with the update.
How is your uncle?
Fifteen asked Rose, “how is your mom? How is your uncle?” We have never heard of an uncle before. Donna doesn’t have any siblings, and it was never mentioned that Rose’s dad does.
This would suggest that Fourteen has become the “uncle,” and that makes a lot of sense. He is family. As Supernatural will always remind us, “family don’t end in blood.” Many TV shows focus on chosen family, and Doctor Who is certainly one of them when you look at The Doctor and is companions.
So, Fourteen is now Rose’s uncle. And he’s “good.”
Isn’t Fourteen dead in Italy in Doctor Who?
Radio Times does remind fans of something that Russell T. Davis said about Fourteen. Davis said that Fourteen went to Venice in 2063. While there, the sink sank and The Doctor went into a whirlpool. It is a “really sad story.”
A lot of fans assumed he was joking. Davis has to play coy when it comes to a lot of things, especially if something is going to be mentioned later on.
Of course, we’re only in 2024 right now. For all we know, Donna and Rose weren’t with him in 2063. There is no way for anyone to find out. However, this is Fourteen. He survived that whirlpool somewhere. And for now, Fourteen is “good.” We won’t see him again, but he is out there, living his best life.
