When it comes to Christmas specials, Call the Midwife has some of the best. There’s no doubt that we’re looking forward to the 2025 Christmas special, and PBS has now set the date.
This is a two-part Christmas special. In the United Kingdom, the two-part special will air over the course of two days. The first half will air on Christmas Day and the second half will air the day after, on Boxing Day. However, U.S. viewers have some exciting news.
Call the Midwife’s 2025 Christmas special will air on one night
Fans won’t need to wait for the second part of the special. The two episodes will air back-to-back on Christmas Day 2025. Fans can tune in from 8 p.m. ET/PT and stay for the whole two hours.
Those who have PBS Passport won’t be able to stream this early like we can with regular Call the Midwife episodes. Instead, those with the PBS App or PBS Masterpiece will be able to stream until Jan. 24, 2026. From there, it will move off the app to get ready for an arrival on Netflix when the whole of Call the Midwife season 15 arrives later in the year.
A story in two locations on Call the Midwife 2025 Christmas special
The 2025 special will take place in two countries, which was previously shared. Some of the members of Nonnatus House will head to Hong Kong, where they take part on a mercy mission. The younger midwives will stay home, running the House as best they can and dealing with the various emergencies that come in. This does mean that the Nonnatus House dinner table will remain a special part of the episode.
Of course, we’re now into 1970 and heading into 1971. Keep this in mind with the various political and social topics that come up in both countries.

The synopsis for the 2025 Christmas special of Call the Midwife goes into a few more details, including how Sister Julienne is excited about the future of her Order. She went through some fears for the future in the 14th season, and she even had a moment of weariness and tiredness. It was only when she helped deliver a baby in the middle of the night in squalid conditions that she felt energized. With a trip to Hong Kong, she had a chance to feel more excitement about the change that is coming.
Meanwhile, the younger midwifes will deal with more changes to the NHS. There’s a rise in hospital births, which seems to take away their needs as midwives. However, there is still work for them to do. Anyone who has given birth in the UK will know just how important midwives still are, and it’s all about the team to embrace the change right now.
Call the Midwife’s 2025 Christmas special will air on Christmas Day at 8/7c on PBS.
