Comte St. Germain is searching for Master Raymond in The Space Between Section 5. There’s a lot on his mind.

This section is all internalized once more. I will say that this would make it much harder for the short story to be adapted into a TV show. There are ways around it, but it wouldn’t make as much sense.

Breaking down The Space Between Section 5

We start off with Comte St. Germain getting ready to go to Madame Fabienne’s for the evening. That is his plan, but it is too early for that. It could mean that he gets some time to focus on another thought on his mind. He wants to find out more about Master Raymond.

The problem with Master Raymond (and himself) is history. Comte St. Germain has needed to find the obscure drinking places where it’s safe to talk openly. After all, the Court of Miracles led to his death, and he can’t share with anyone that he is back.

In some good news, few people will recognize him now. Few even know his history. That doesn’t mean he wants to risk anything. We can see the sort of man he has always been, but with Outlander never focusing on him, it was often hard to see who he really was.

In the previous sections, we learned that he knows about time travel. He is a time traveler. What he doesn’t know is whether Master Raymond is one as well, and that’s something he’s desperate to know. That means he needs to find the man.

He is also a vain man, and we see that more in this section. We learn that he is still worried about aging, and he wants to know if Master Raymond has aged, and if so, by how much.

Could this chapter be used in a TV adaptation?

As I mentioned before, it would be hard to see The Space Between adapted into a TV series. There is so much that’s internalized that it makes it difficult to adapt. We’d need to see the Comte talk to someone about all of this.

There is the option of jumping straight to him finding Master Raymond and then explaining things. We could also have him talk to a rat or something as a sign of some of the madness he likely feels. There are ways to manage it, but it’s difficult. However, this section would be needed because it gives so much of a look into the Comte’s mindset right now.
