We’re getting ready for the next book in our Outlander Book Club. We’re onto the short stories in Seven Stones to Stand or Fall, and the first of the remaining ones outside the Lord John Grey short stories is The Space Between.
We’ll start the readthrough of this on Monday, Feb. 17, splitting the story in sections where it makes sense. We’ll continue to look at whether elements of the story would work if there was an adaptation of it. This could work as a limited series spin-off.
Of course, you’ll want to know the characters we’re following before jumping into it. Here’s what you need to know about The Space Between.
Following Michael Murray and Joan McKimmie to France in The Space Between
Part of the short story picks up partway through An Echo in the Bone. After Claire left Scotland, Michael Murray and Joan McKimmie headed to Paris, France. For Joan, it was about starting her life in the convent. For Michael, he needed to deal with grief and loss while running his wine business.
Michael is grieving two losses. Before the death of his father came the death of his young wife. He’s figuring out life after all of that, and his heart may not be fully into the wine business as it once was.
Meanwhile, Joan meets Mother Hildegard and passes on a letter from Claire. This leads to some bad French and misunderstandings, which naturally leads to drama!
Comte St. Germain is back in The Space Between
Did you think Comte St. Germain died in 1740s Paris? So many people did, but The Space Between changes all of that. It turns out that he survived, and he learns a few secrets about his life.
Of course, he is after revenge against Claire. With her not being in Paris, he finds out that there may be another way to enact his revenge.
Of course, Master Raymond is back. He has information for Comte St. Germain, but what game is this man playing? Will we ever find out?
The Space Between is part of the collection of short stories in Seven Stones to Stand or Fall.
