We head back to Le Comte St. Germain’s story in The Space Between Section 22. This is the point where Joan’s bad French will come back to haunt her.

Le Comte wants to find Michael, because he wants to find out more about Claire. It’s clear that after all this time, Le Comte has not forgiven Claire for what she did — and he would have known it’s not like she had a choice. He wants revenge, and he will find a way to get it.

Breaking down The Space Between Section 22

The section begins with Le Comte heading to the gaming club. He learned that Michael frequents the establishment, and he hopes to run into Michael while there at some point. Le Comte wants to know more about Claire Fraser, who he vividly remembers as La Dame Blanche.

While there, he runs into a man called Pepin, who was someone known for talking. That meant that while Le Comte couldn’t get information directly from Michael, he could get some information from Pepin. It also turned out that Pepin was a friend of Michael’s, so he knew a little more than just an everyday man would in the club.

Pepin shares that Michael has a younger cousin, who is a nun in the convent. When Pepin shares that this cousin is the daughter of Jamie Fraser, Le Comte immediately believes that it means she is the daughter of Claire Fraser. He decides to make a bet with Pepin that he can get Joan into bed, which shows just how little Le Comte respects anyone. It shouldn’t be that surprising considering what we already know of the man from Dragonfly in Amber, though.

Could this chapter be used in a TV adaptation?

This section would certainly need to be used if The Space Between was adapted into a TV series. It’s one of those that connects to the bigger storyline. We now get to see how Le Comte’s story is combined with Joan and Michael’s story.

I would also like to see how Le Comte acts when he is getting information. He’s a time traveler, and he’s presumed dead by many. How does he lurk in the shadows in establishments that aren’t quite as underground as some of the ones he was in earlier?
