Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 2 needs to bring more sisterly moments

Throughout Outlander: Blood of My Blood, we got to know various members of the MacKenzie clan. Seeing Jocasta and Janet angry toward Ellen made a lot of sense, but it meant that we couldn’t get a look at women supporting women.

That was until the end of the season. With Ellen genuinely apologizing to her sisters, she was able to mend the bridge, and that led to Jocasta helping Brian get to Ellen and then helping the two run away. She wanted to see love win just the once, but there’s one downside to this happening.

We don’t get to see more sisterly moments in Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 2

Just as we start to get some moments, we lose them. We know that Ellen MacKenzie doesn’t see her brother Colum ever again after running away from Castle Leoch to be with Brian. Presumably, that means she doesn’t see any of her siblings again, including Jocasta, who risked a lot to get Brian and Ellen out.

This means no more sisterly moments, and there is so much hope for the two of them. Ellen knows what it’s like to be in Jocasta’s position, and Jocasta sees that there is some sort of chance for love. She wants her sister to get that opportunity, even if it means angering many other people.

It’s a shame, because throughout Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, we got this hint that there could have been more between the sisters had the anger and bitterness not taken hold. We see that Brian and Ellen encourage their children to have close relationships, even when they are miles apart from each other, so it would make sense that that encouragement comes because of their own upbringings.

Brian didn’t have siblings, so, I always thought that it came from how Ellen and Colum used to be so close. She wanted Jenny and Jamie to have that similar connection, and to keep that connection going in the adult years, presumably because she missed it after everything happened with Brian. That doesn’t seem to be the case, though, and maybe it’s because she doesn’t have a close relationship with Jocasta as she would have liked.

There are ways to keep the sisterly moments in Outlander: Blood of My Blood

Something Matt B. Roberts told us at claireandjamie.com is that there will be some changes to the canon. In the books, Ellen never sees Colum again, and they only write to each other. That’s not the case in Outlander: Blood of My Blood due to actor chemistry. They want more of the actors on screen together, and that means we’ll see Ellen and Colum in scenes together.

It opens the door for some of Ellen, Jocasta, and Janet, as well. Will Colum learn that Jocasta helped Ellen get out, or is that something the sisters will take to their graves? Either way, Ellen and Jocasta especially are pulled closer together, and we could see Jocasta and Janet working with Ellen to keep her protected, especially with the Jacobite rising.
