Decisions were made by all clan members in Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 9. Meanwhile, the Jacobites rally together, but there’s an ill omen at the end.

The latest episode of Outlander: Blood of My Blood finally puts our four main characters in the same location. However, it doesn’t lead to the happiness that we’d hope for. Instead, it leads to heartbreak in difficult moments.
Ellen MacKenzie has to make a choice in Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 9
Despite wanting to be with Brian Fraser, Ellen MacKenzie finds herself in a difficult position. In an effort to protect himself from Colum’s anger about the use of Ellen’s dowry, he has to tell Colum about Brian Fraser. Well, that leads to Colum threatening to kill Brian, but he won’t allow harm to come to him as long as Ellen chooses the clan before her own wants.
Ellen does it just to protect Brian, but it leads to a heartbreaking moment for Brian Fraser. She’s cold as she tells him that it wasn’t love. We know she’s doing this to protect him, but it breaks our hearts to see this decision. And I’m sure there are going to be some people who say “it didn’t go like that in Outlander,” but the truth is we don’t know the whole story! Jamie only heard the good parts.
In the end, Ellen chooses Clan MacKenzie and then Clan Grant as we go into the Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1 finale.
Clan Grant makes a shocking decision in the Jacobite rebellion
Meanwhile, Malcolm has taken over Clan Grant as laird, and there is a beautiful moment between Malcolm and Ellen as they discuss the loss of their fathers. It’s hard not to feel for Malcolm at this point, because we know how it will all eventually play out between Ellen and Brian. Malcolm clearly loves Ellen, and there’s nothing to tell me right now that he’s not a good man.

His uncle, on the other hand, is a piece of work. He threatens Ellen MacKenzie if she breaks Malcolm’s heart, and he does something that nobody expected. He tells the Earl of Mar that he is on the side of the Jacobites, and so is the whole of Clan Grant. Even Malcolm is shocked to hear this.
There is an ill omen as the Earl of Mar calls for the support of King James VIII of Scotland and III of England, Wales, and Ireland. The top of the flagpole falls off, suggesting that the First Jacobite Rebellion is going to end in disaster.
Brian Fraser struggles with heartbreak
Meanwhile, Brian has to deal with Ellen breaking his heart. He tries to hold it all together, but as Simon Fraser gets angry at him yet again (after being humiliated by the Grants), Brian lashes out. Here are ClaireandJamie.com, we can’t blame him for lashing out, but it’s also not surprising that Simon is angry considering he’s only just hearing that Ellen passed the purity test.
Sadly for Brian, Ballach is right there and stops Brian from being able to attack his father. Julia clearly wants to do something, but Murtagh stops that from happening. It’s clear that while Murtagh is angry with Brian right now, he still loves his cousin.
In fact, at the end of the episode, as Brian has people firing arrows at him in an attempt to kill him, Murtagh steps in to save him. If anyone is going to kill Brian, it’s going to be him. It’s clear that this friendship can be mended.
In the end, the two rush off on horses that are strategically placed at the edge of the wood they’re in. They ride off, presumably back to Castle Leathers.
Julia and Henry clear the air in Outlander: Blood of My Blood
Henry, Julia, and William are in one place, and there’s a chance for Henry to see his son. All of that is taken away by Julia, who has to quickly cover for her husband. She explains that Henry has heard of the prophecy and supports it.
This is when Henry learns of everything Julia has done, but it’s from Simon. He’s shocked and confused by all of this, but Brian is able to get to Henry and explain the entire situation. I love that Brian is able to help Henry understand.
Henry decides to turn to Ned Gowan for help to get away from Castle Grant, and he does agree to despite it being dangerous. He also gets a note to Julia, so the two can discuss the entire situation in private. There is nothing for Henry to forgive, as he now understands what she went through and how she had to act to protect herself and William.
However, the two cannot be together for long, as we’ve said before on ClaireandJamie.com that Julia is still somewhat of a prisoner of Simon Fraser. Julia tells Henry to get to Castle Leathers, and she will leave a marker to let him know where to be. Will we see the two escape in the Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1 finale? There is hope!
