We know the basics of the story of Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser. Outlander: Blood of My Blood is about to go into more details.
The story that we know comes from third-party sources that don’t know it all. While it seems like Brian shared some of his romance with Ellen with Jamie and Jenny, he wouldn’t have told the whole picture. That means there’s a lot to learn in the new Outlander prequel series.
With Outlander: Blood of My Blood already renewed for season 2, there is a lot to look forward to. The series will bring us two love stories, and STARZ has released a couple of sneak peeks. We’ll go into Julia and Henry’s sneak peek soon, but for now, we’re looking at Ellen and Brian.
Ellen and Brian don’t even know who each other are in Outlander: Blood of My Blood
The sneak peek of the story in the 18th century gives us Ellen and Brian meeting in secret. This is the first time they’re meeting, and they don’t even know each other’s name. Ellen does point out that it’s unusual for a woman to meet with a man without a chaperone, and Brian does what he can to avoid any chatter should they be seen. The bridge can be their chaperone.
It’s when Ellen learns who Brian is that she has a disappointed look. The MacKenzies and the Frasers don’t get along, and this isn’t just about Ellen’s brothers, Colum and Dougal. Ellen’s father, Jacob, doesn’t get along with Brian’s father, Simon.
Ellen doesn’t comment about Brian’s illegitimate birth
Brian doesn’t hide the fact that he is the illegitimate son of Simon Fraser, and Ellen doesn’t even comment on that. It’s clear that the nature of his birth isn’t something that bothers her. After all, we know how William later feels about this, who turns out to be Brian and Ellen’s grandson.
Her main concern is her family, and it’s clear to her that a relationship with Brian can’t work. Can she allow herself to give in to her heart’s desires, or will she need to follow the rules? This is the side of Ellen that we don’t get to hear about in Outlander, as we hear about how she ran away with Brian. There is much more to her decision here, and that’s what we’ll get to see soon.
